Located in the southwest, Ville Emard is surrounded by Verdun to the south, Lasalle to the west, NDG to the the north and Cote Saint Paul to the east. Mostly francophone, the neighbourhood also has a notable English presence. Although it used to be comprised mostly of apartments (duplexes, triplexes, etc.), Ville-Emard has enjoyed a real-estate boom since the early 2000's and many condos have been built. Ville Emard is strategically located near the Lachine and Aqueduct Canals. The opening of the Monk Boulevard Bridge in 2002 made the area more accessible, and around the same time the Lachine Canal was opened up for recreational navigation. Two metro stations are present in the sector and many bike paths cross through it. There is also Angrignon Park, one of Montreal's largest. Ville Emard will interest young couples and families who wish to live in a quiet area that still has many notable attractions and is easily accessible thanks to public transit and Highway 20. An industrial area at the beginning of the XXth century, the neighbourhood was gradually deindustrialized before enjoying renewed growth in the early 2000's.
