Montreal-East is an industrial town of 3700 inhabitants located in the eastern tip of the island of Montreal, and surrounded by the boroughs of Anjou, Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles .

The vast majority of petrochemical facilities in Quebec have long been concentrated there. With refineries Shell and Gulf including raffinait we are at that time 400,000 barrels of oil per day. Today, following the closure of the Shell refinery in 2010, metallurgy and manufacturing industries remain important employers. The vast majority of the territory of the city is also occupied by the industry, particularly north of Sherbrooke Street.

The residential part occupies only a very small portion, located between Sherbrooke Street and Notre Dame Avenue. Montreal East is a largely populated city of renters (60%). It is also a very francophone city: in 2011, 90% of residents said that French was the language they speak most often at home.
